I've often wondered, as an artist, do you create what you truly love or what potential buyers might love?
I love designing fantasy flowers, any flowers, fruits, no rhyme or reason. I think I've done some beautiful flowers and anything related. I also love cartooning. I've recently tried my hand at it in PS In fact I use PS for most of my designs. Some of my designs, looking back at my earlier flowers and cartoons, are quite awful. The designs I thought I might delete, actually sold. There's no account for taste. Second guessing a potential customer, is an impossibility. With that being said, then why shouldn't we create what we love and maybe potential customers will love it also?
Below is just a small example of what I love doing.

Ice Cream Sundae by simplesketch

Some of my favorite sketches are those designs that deal with a usual or common object or subject, but I present it in a way that one is not used to. I also like to draw subjects that are related to my personal likes (favorite food, favorite hobbies, etc.).
Case in point, yesterday I completed a sketch called Ice Cream Sundae which was a joy to work on. Not only do I enjoy ice-cream, but I wanted to try to present this favored dessert in a unique manner. So I decided to sketch each component of the design, the fountain glass, the frozen yogurt, the hot fudge drizzle, the sweet cherry, and the dessert spoon, with a distinct hatch stroke. I was especially pleased with how the hatching of the frozen yogurt came out, it appears as if the frozen yogurt is especially light, soft, and creamy.

This picture features a prisoner of the Fair Folk, transforming into one of them. Beneath her lies a quote from the Ballad of Tam Lin: "When we were frae the hunting came /That frae my horse I fell /The Queen o' Faeries she caught me /In yon green hill to dwell." I struggle to be creative. With photography, I see what I see, but I find it almost impossible to create something out of thin air. Nearly everything I do revolves around nature, and living in France coupled with an abundance of edible snails, I arrived at this binder. It's a compromise between what I like doing, and what I think everyone else might like Smile.
I don't know if this is my favourite - everything has different merits, but I do strive to actually make or design something with my photography, and I'm quite pleased with how this turned out. It's certainly one of my most creative!
The snail's shell had the colour added in Photoshop - it wasn't actually painted!

I love designing lots of different things, one day it's a painting of flowers, the next it's a nude pencil drawing, next again it's a cartoon creation on photoshop. I've picked this Yellow Gerbera Daisy as (one of) my best pieces. It was my first attempt with using a graphics tablet and painting software and took several hours to get it to a standard I'd expect of myself if using a traditional medium.

Here is one of my favorites, a brown owl. I loving painting owls. Image is from my original acrylic painting. This regal brown and white owl is sitting on a tree branch with a landscape of blue water and sky in the background.

I love art! It doesn't matter who creates it, or what the motivation is. If it makes me feel something, than it's art. From doodles to a 1000 year old manuscript. no difference in my opinion. Art should come from your heart.
As for a favorite piece. I don't have one. Because i feel like all 13 GB on my computer and the house full of paintings, ceramics, sketches, quilts, etc... are all my art and all my "babies".

Print from my original gouache digital painting. The painting is a naive still life of three orange daylilies in a bulb-shaped brick red vase. The background is beige with a canvas texture. This charming image is available in a variety of sizes and paper types. My newest is almost always my favorite and this is my newest.

My photography is my art and that is mostly what I have in my Zazzle store. But I made this collage of the great jazz pianist, Thelonious Monk, and scanned it for this poster. This poster is a colorful collage of one of the piano masters of modern music, Thelonious Sphere Monk. Along with Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie he is generally credited with pioneering the jazz music called Bebop.

I work almost exclusively with Prismacolor colored pencils. I do other types of work but my favorite to view and create is hands-down abstract. I have two favorites, but I think this one wins for now probably because it's my most recent abstract piece. Spend hours with your friends discussing the possible meanings and symbolism in this creation, original work done myself with Prismacolor pencils.
